21. To say I am disgusted at the way AOL is treating it's customers is to put it mildly. I have been with AOL ever since I first joined the Internet and over the last few years, ever since they decided to sell us of to Carphone Warehouse; things have gone from bad to worse. Now they have reached the limit...words of warning AOL from one who knows...disband and get rid of of the groups and their ways of communicating and you will lose not just hundreds but millions of customers.I have friends in not only USA, Australia, New Zealand and Dubai but several other non european countries. Not one of them supports your decision. Groups are the lifeblood of my life and that of AOL...so if you dont want to see AOL[UK] Crash...think again.

22. After Groups@AOL was dissolved. Me and my extended family, who used the online tool to keep in touch, were all pretty upset. We lost pictures, event listings, and other important information that we shared from across the country. For some of us, this was the only communication that we had with each other. I tried the AIM groups, which had nothing but a blog, to rebuild my family network. It was crap compared to Groups@AOL. I tried several different options, and finally settled upon Yahoo Groups. You can also enjoy a group website with blogging, calendar events, reminders, PICTURES, surveys, and other tools to make your friend, club, or family website informative and fun. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and sign up today. Why wait for AOL when you can get started now!

23. I cannot reply where I am supposed to reply so I am sorry about this, but when are the Profiles going to be fixed so people can actually update them again? Mine was erased and any time I try to do anything than add a photo, it tells me "Cannot save changes at this time". I'm rather miffed because it was erased entirely so I'll have to retype everything, too.

24. Bridget - it seems like ANYTHING you may try will probably be to no avail - AOL is selling out its customers and could care less what we had, what we liked and what we are upset about. Extremely disappointing to say the least. I cannot see how this company can last much longer - not what they are doing now. I am on the way to bow out totally! Good luck to us all. Good bye to AOL -

25. From U.K.
I started 5 years ago in a Group. Things went wrong with the Group, but I took over and kept it going, but eventually had to start up a new one. A LOT of water has passed under the bridge since then.
I have a new Group again, that virtually got destroyed when AIM took over from AOL, but we hung in there, - and we have a small but THRIVING chat room of pensioners, disabled, people with problems, and even perfectly normal people - all having a really good time together EVERY night.
It has been hard enough trying to hold the actual Group together with massive problems using the Group pages, MASSIVE problems sending invites, and - as others have said - no postings or pictures, or birthdays, or anything that we used to have when AOL was running the show.
Everything has been steadily going downhill in spite of constant promises of improvements, difficulty getting on line, - getting booted off frequently, and far too many problems to list here - - ALL since AIM took over with fantastic promises - - but have not been able to deliver even ONE new or good feature, only steadily deteriorating.
When AOL9 was first introduced - - everybody was over the moon, it was FANTASTIC. Everything was faster and easier, even idiots like myself could use it with ease.
Now they've introduced the "new" AIM and Vista to complicate matters considerably. Almost everybody I know are wishing we had a time machine to go back to the good old days of (new) AOL9 and XP. But NO - - it wasn't broke - - but they bloody well had to get in there and "fix" it.
Judging from the comments I've just read - - they are "fixing" themselves right out of business.
BT and NTL used to be "unmentionable". It seems AIM have inherited the bad bits of both of them, and added a lot more of their own difficulties.
But hey, most of the AIM staff seem to be somewhere in the Far East (no names)where they couldn't really give a toss about the customers. Nuff said !

27. I am in agreeance with the majority of the people here...why on earth did AOL change the groups to AIM Groups in the first place, I am owner of an "AOL Group" now an empty page...keepin our anonymity, our group was one big family, chatting back and forth, helping eachother with different situations in our lives, our group was very theraputic, now it is shut down...nothing...I am really considering deleting AOL from my computer and never using it again, I have been a member for several years, and I have acquired many friends in my group and other groups like mine...I am very displeased with the changes made. I vote we get back what we had before AIM took over the groups, it was one thing taking the chat room away, then the pictures, then all the conversations and posts posted through the years we all looked back on in times of need. It is really a shame that our little peace of serenity has been taken from us.

30. I have to say that I agree with the rest. If it's not broken why fix it? I think aol's old 7.0 was the best. Since then everything has gotten worse, especially the VR format...I usually have to either download aol again or restore at least once a month now. It's not very reliable anymore..I started with aol but if they continue with the changes I can go to another provider for half the money I'm now being charged. The only reason I haven't changed all-ready is because most of my friends used to use aol. But a lot of them have all-ready switched to other providers either because of the service or the price so I guess I'll have to follow them in the near future. Sometimes change is good but not all-ways. WilmoJo1@aol.com.....

31. Wow! I guess I've really been out of touch with what's going on with AOL. I've mostly used it for e-mail accounts and accessing the Internet. However, I do belong to a few groups and what a surprise to find out that they have been moved, are less functional and are going away.
I've been on AOL for years and have paid the full price for connecting through AOL, even though I currently use Road Runner to get on line. Why? Because if I go to someone else's house to work on their machine, I like to know I can get access to the Internet through a familiar interface. Also, I've become very used to AOL's e-mail presentation and did not want to lose it. Apparently, though, it's time for me to change all of my on-line accounts (banking, insurance, dating, financials, etc.) to some other e-mail address that (hopefully) I can count on staying around... and also allows me to interact with the Internet community. Are we all going to have to succumb to MSN? :( Where can I go to find good customer support, again?
btw: I thought AOL would NEVER ask for my password!

32. To AOL: It started with the departure of Steve Case, and AOL started to go down hill. What a shame -- some American Online will be NoOne Online. The community groups were wonderful. We've had over thirty groups since 9/11/2001. AOL was a great place to hold prayer and fellowship meetings via email and chat.
We shall pray that someone in top management wakes up in time -- before all of AOL is outsourced to India, and they are running India Online.
Thanks for the good years, AOL. Hopeful you survive all the bad decisions that have affected you for several years.
Inlovingkindnes,
Sue Sabas

34. I really don't like the idea of AIM shuting down accounts. Like I'm on mine everyday. Why would they shut down accounts? Also, I don't like the fact that they are going to make us pay for our AIM. It's not really fair. Beacuse when we first joined AIM it said it was free! So, It should still be free!
Please respond to my comment!

37. Please keep your comments relevant to this blog entry.
I'll tell ya all somethin', relevant or not. First AOL took away my e-mailing privs (white bulk sheet) on FALSE pretenses and NOW they took away the last of the groups that I had. I just got back on-line 4 days ago, on July 9th and today on July 13th, I find this mess. You people who "run" this place have NO idea what was lost...no, it wasn't used often, but that's because AOL went ahead and screwed it up BEFORE they screwed it up NOW again! How many times do people like me and Janice Windham have to go through this BS until you AOL people GET A CLUE? Yes, I'm irate as heck and with very good reason to be. As a group leader I can't even edit what might come through the net! Tell me...AM I WRONG??? AM I REALLY REALLY WRONG??? It's no wonder why AOL started their free e-mail crap. I'd rather PAY for mine and get GOOD quality! As far as I'm concerned, this list I had is DEAD!

39. I agree with almost everything as far as the complaints go . What's next ? The groups were great with AOL , then when AIM took over everything went OUT . The next question is who , what , and where ? What else can go wrong ? AIM is a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT !

40. HI!
I would like to ask if i can still get my contacts in group?
I think AOL should ask their users first and produce beta testers and a study for a new setup. In that sense, there will be no rampant decrease in AOL users.
Thank and Hope AOL wont do it next time
